Mayan man

School and learning
Rich and powerful Maya learnt how to read and write from the priests and the nobles. Some learnt how to read the calendar and the stars. Most of the Maya did not go to school and never learnt to read. They learnt how to farm and make cloths from their parents.
The Maya today
The Maya are an ancient people. There are still some Maya in the world. Some of them wear modern clothes and work in modern offices. Others continue to live in the way their ancestors did thousands of years ago.

KING MIDAS

King Midas was a very wealthy king. His hobby was collecting gold. From the time he got up in the morning to the time he went to bed at night, he counted his gold. Nothing gave Midas greater pleasure then seeing his gold.
One day, Midas sat counting his gold. He saw an old man as sleep under the tree. He recognised the old man. He was silenus from the court of Dionysus, the god of wine and feasting.
Midas was cunning. He thought to himself, if I treat Silenus well, Dionysus will be pleased with me.
